Our Enrichment Classes have started and we have been discussing who we are as learners. Throughout our discussions we talked about the difference between personal interest (both academic and non-academic) and the skills we possess within these personal interests. We had enriching conversations about how many of our skills span over many subjects such as an ability to listen, or providing leadership roles throughout reading discussions and outside on the Lacrosse field. We analyzed commonalities between our classmates and discussed traits and skills we all could bring to the group. Some of these group traits include our ability to collaborate, encourage others, communicate ideas and engage ourselves in learning. As a group, we thought that these should be the cornerstones to our classroom in a pursuit for our personal best! Talk about a discussion!!!
I had the students choose at least skills and develop a 30 second impromptu speech depicting their strengths. Everyone had so much fun and the speeches were informative and hilarious all in one.
Sixth and Fifth grade took a look at their first project- Project Election 2008 and started to talk about the issues within the election. We will be continuing this conversation and incorporating research tools and skills to aid in our fact finding. If you have any suggestions or resources that we may use throughout our election journey we welcome it!
Fourth graders will begin their O.R.E.O Project this week and we will be exploring the scientific method as a circular process. Please check out the O.R.E.O. Project link as well as our webpage for highlights of our experiment day.
Thanks for checking into our classroom news page. Please leave us a comment if you would like by visiting our web blogger- http://learningcornernews.blogspot.com/
As we progress through each of these projects, I will be blogging our experiences. In addition, students will be publishing their work to a larger audience on our webpage for our collaborative partners and the world beyond the walls of our classroom.
Can you believe summer is almost over! It seems like only yesterday my fourth grade students from East Vincent were helping me pack up my room and transition into my new position at West Vincent. All of them were so incredible and I look forward to hearing great things about their upcoming school year. And now, I am proud to say Rm 101 at West Vincent Elementary School is complete- all 30 boxes have been moved, unloaded and a new room has been created. However, I am excited for the students to make it a home away from home.
My colleagues and I have been working very hard to get the school ready for Tuesday and I am anxious to get to know all of my new students and to see all of my old friends. As I embark on this new opportunity as a Gifted and Talented Teacher, I am confident with my background, thirst for knowledge and learning, and desire to be an advocate for each student's educational success that this year will be incredible. I look forward to working with every parent, teacher, staff member, and student to ensure an enriching year for us all!
It is my hope that this newsletter blog will be an avenue of continuous collaboration and communication between school and home. Please continue to check the newsletter weekly to see any important news, links to projects students are working on, and possible long term assignments.
